Each lesson is personally tailored for your specific needs and is focused on getting to the root cause of the problem. Utilizing the principals of the Alexander Technique we find how improper alignment effects all areas of your body mechanics and learn how to find the “position of mechanical advantage’ which puts the body in a neutral, balanced position poised for any and all activity. We discover new ways to move, ridding ourselves of unwanted tension, pain and stress.
We also quickly get right to the areas of your life you want to gain freedom in, be it running, gardening, horseback riding or just being able to push your kids on a swing. By exploring healthy ways to move, work, and live, you’ll rid yourself of tension, pain, and stress. Your initial lesson takes around 1 hour 15 minutes and includes an assessment. Thereafter lessons last about 45 minutes. You should wear loose, comfortable clothing. The teacher uses explanation and a gentle guiding touch to help you rediscover balance and ease within yourself.
Lessons start with looking at simple movements such as standing, sitting, bending and walking. You learn how your coordination and breathing works and how to avoid poor habits of body use.
Work is also done lying on a table. You learn to recognize and release your own individual patterns of tension. This leaves you with a real sense of calmness and well-being.
Lessons can address specific activities too, such as playing an instrument, riding a horse, driving, working at a computer, different types of sports, etc.
A lesson includes:
- Sophisticated, gentle hands-on guidance and feedback.
- Relaxation and a chance to unravel stress while you lie on a bodywork table.
- Instruction (through words and touch) regarding habitual movement patterns
- Examination of everyday basic movements such as sitting, standing, speaking, walking, bending, reaching, and specific activities like working at your computer, playing a sport, public speaking, etc.
As a Qualified Centered Riding® Instructor and Certified Teacher of the Alexander Technique, Carolene combined the principles of both to develop the Conscious Riding Method. The Conscious Riding Method allows both horse and rider to replace old patterns of movement and move more freely and comfortably, thereby enhancing their performance and enjoyment.
The quality of the rider’s coordination and balance affects both the horse–rider interaction and the horse’s coordination and balance. When the rider improves, the horse’s performance improves, too. The whole team becomes a more efficient expression of integrated coordination and balance. Whatever your age, ability or style of riding the intimate communication between horse and rider can be enhanced.

It is also possible to organize a workshop at your own workplace or meeting place, so please feel free to call me to discuss this.
I will tailor our time together to address the specific needs of your workplace including the everyday basic movements such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching or specific activities like working at a computer.
